#029 - Drinkwaters

Yet another image of one of my favourite images, Great Hill, taken from the ruined farm of Drinkwater on Anglezarke Moor.

This is an old shot, taken in 2004 and shot in colour in JPEG format and processed in Photoshot using the following procedure.

1:- Create a Hue & Saturation Adjustment layer, select the Colourize option then click OK.
Select ‘Colour’ in the drop down Blending Mode box.

2 :- Create another Hue & Saturation Adjustment layer and remove all the colour by moving the Saturation slider to -100 then click OK.

3 :- Double Click on the first Hue & Saturation Adjustment layer and move the Hue slider until a good contrast range is achieved.

4 :- I now add a Grayscale Mapping Gradient Map Adjustment Layer. I like to add this to ensure that the image has a full range of tones from Black to White.

5:- I now make various Selections and add a 200px Feather to soften the edge. For each Selection I make a Curves Adjustment Layer and either darken or lighten as required.

6 :- Create a new Layer and add a Gradient Fill from Black to White to darken the sky. I select Multiply in the Blending mode and adjust it’s Opacity to about 30%.

7 :- I now create a new layer and while holding the Alt Key, click the fly out arrow on the top right of the Layers palette and select the Merge Visible option. This merges all the changes made so far onto one layer.

8:- I now Dodge and Burn the image on this new layer until I achieve the look I’m aiming for.

9 :- The final step is to check the Levels to make sure that the full spread from Black to White is present.
